Huawei Announces Honor V8 Pro and Y5 (2017)

April 5th, 2017 | by Z. Gonzales

Huawei has refreshed two of its smartphones this week. On one hand, there’s the budget Y5 (2017) which replaces the Y5II from 2016 while on the other, there’s the Honor V8 Pro which is an updated from the original V8 that was released almost the same time last year.

For the Y5, the changes are mostly inside, with updates on its processor, RAM, GPU and storage. The front camera and battery have also been bumped up from 2MP to 5MP and from 2200mAh to 3000mAh respectively.

Huawei Y5The rest of the specs are just the same as of last year’s model with some minor updates here and there. You can check the rest of the specs of the Y5 (2017) below.

The same story goes with the Honor V8 Pro. In terms of design, there are only subtle differences between last year’s model and this year’s V8 Pro. Both are still sporting a 5.7-inch display with QHD resolution, the same dual 12MP rear camera setup, and the same metal body construction.

What’s new though can be found on the inside. The V8 Pro gets the upgraded Kirin 960 chipset which is also the one inside the company’s flagship phones – the Mate 9 and the P10. The battery department is also getting an update from a 3500mAh unit from the 2016 V8 to a beefier 4000mAh battery unit this year.
