LG Outs G6 – Says Goodbye to Modularity

March 11th, 2017 | by Z. Gonzales

So, it’s that time of the year again where a large number of phone makers get together in a convention center in Barcelona, Spain and show off their latest and greatest for the world to see. This year LG has unveiled its flagship model for 2017 – the G6.

Compared to last year’s model, the G6 seems to be the phone where LG decided to play catch-up on some of its competitors and at the same time a step back on some things they didn’t really do well on the G5.

LG-G6-01The G6’s built has been improved by now having a unibody design with Gorilla Glass on the front and back over the G5’s coated metal back plate which many people didn’t find great to the touch. Its display has also been increased in size but compared to its competitors, LG’s implementation uses a different aspect ratio which made the device’s display longer and narrower than the competition.

LG has also upped the G6’s game when it comes to audio by installing an upgraded 32-bit quad DAC. On top of that, LG has made the G6 IP68 certified so you can take it for a quick dip in 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. In terms of performance, the G6 has an improved processor and a 64GB version with 4GB of RAM.

LG-G6-04On the downside, the new design language implemented in the design means there’s a bit of a tradeoff with some features. The most obvious of these tradeoffs would be the removal of the modular design, which means the ability to remove the back cover and swap the battery is also gone.

LG is said to have the G6 ready for shipping sometime this month for around $800. Check out the specs of the LG G6 below.
