Alienware Refreshes the Alienware 13 Laptop

June 18th, 2016 | by Z. Gonzales

Alienware has always been known to build high-end gaming equipment – specifically its line of gaming desktops and laptops. This week at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, the American brand refreshed a number of its products including an Area 51 desktop and its 13-inch gaming laptop.

Alienware 13 2The Alienware 13 was initially announced at this year’s CES in Las Vegas. Dell has since then worked on improving the laptop. These improvements are what the company has unveiled at E3 this week. For starters, the laptop’s display has been improved considerably.

The device now has an OLED screen with a contrast ratio of 100,000:1 and a response time of 1ms to 2ms. The screen’s resolution tops at 2560 x 1440 pixels with 400 nits of brightness.

Alienware has made the laptop its thinnest notebook using aerospace-inspired carbon fiber and anodized aluminium in its construction. The use of these two light-weight materials has allowed the Alienware 13 to be as light as 4.5 pounds, which is not much compared to ultra-light notebooks, but is quite an achievement for a gaming laptop.

Alienware 13The laptop also sports a 4-cell Lithium ion 52-watt hour battery and a backlit keyboard that uses unique lighting zones which you can control using the company’s AlienFX lighting system.

In terms of performance, the Alienware 13 can be equipped with the latest Intel Core i7 processors clocked up to 3.1GHz, a NVidia GeForce GTX 965M graphics card, 4GB of GDDR5 video memory, up to 16GB of DDR3L RAM and up to 512GB SSD.

In the connectivity department, the Alienware 13 sports a USB 3.0 Type C port for sync and charging, an Ethernet port, two USB 3.0 ports, an Alienware Graphics Amplifier port, a mini-DisplayPort connector, HDMI and a headphone-microphone jack.

There’s no word yet on pricing or release date though.
