Any traveller would know that one of the challenges of going to different places is communicating with locals when you don’t have a clue in the world how to speak that place’s language. This is especially true if people in that place do not speak a secondary language or worse if that particular locality speaks multiple languages.

Iconspeak’s Traveller shirt features 40 universal icons which the wearer can point to in times they don’t know how to translate “where can I find the nearest hotel” using the local language in the country or locality you’re in.

Sounds clever, right? The idea came from three Swiss men George, Steven and Florian after they had problems communicating with their mechanic when their motorbike broke down while travelling in Vietnam.

Now, the three have put up a website where you can buy different items that feature this set of icons. If you’re interested, you can get the Traveller’s shirt for $33 ($44 for a long sleeves version) or pay $22 for a Tote bag.
